Take me somewhere beautiful
Inspiration is everywhere. As a world traveler, finding a story has never been the hard part. I’ve created dialogue beside a campsite, imagined characters from a song, and spent countless hours daydreaming in vivid color.
I find it impossible to go a day without a new story running through my head. The hard part, it turns out, is telling people those stories. Especially when you’re a parent of a beautiful, extroverted, rambunctious toddler and working a full-time tech start up job. I filled my mind with tales and my time with hobbies, never really feeling satisfied.
But one day I woke up.
It only took a song and a beer
For the past several years, two characters had been dancing through my mind, banging at the walls of my brain to let them out. And in May 2024, I started opening the door to let them out.
I put pen to paper, letting the story I’d created come to life in words and began drafting the first book in my Ancestor Cycle series like the good floor troll that I am, using Post-Its and index cards

I can’t be certain who coined the term, but it first came into my lexicon by way of YouTuber Rachel Maksy (if you’re into crafting vids, I highly recommend).
A floor troll is someone who would rather forgo the luxurious nature of couches and chairs for anything creative, opting instead to sprawl themselves on an expanse of their floor. The closer your position resembles a post-collision crash test dummy, the better.

Honestly, the artist has many more songs on my playlist for this book, but the original song was Moonlight Misses You by Vincent Lima. I first heard the song in April 2024 and am super excited to be going to see him perform live in 2025
